Apogenix focuses on the development of innovative protein therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases, based either on the modulation of apoptosis or on a blockade of the invasive growth of tumour cells.
APG101 has entered a clinical Phase II study ahead of schedule in December 2009 for the treatment of Glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive type of brain tumour. It is planned to initiate a second phase II study for the treatment of acute Graft-versus-Host Disease later in 2010.
In pre-clinical studies, Apogenix is focusing on Interleukin-4 (IL-4) blockers. IL-4 plays an essential role in the development of apoptosis resistance in cancer cells and cancer stem cells.
